Salah Companion: Prayer Times user guide
Everything you need to set up Salah Companion: Prayer Times, use each feature properly, and fix the problems people run into most often.
Getting started
Install Salah Companion from the Play Store and open it. On first launch the app asks for location permission — this is used only to calculate prayer times on your device. If you prefer, tap "Set location manually" and search for your city instead.
Once your location is set, pick a calculation method. If you are unsure, the app suggests the convention most commonly used in your region. You can change it at any time from Settings.
Setting up adhan and reminders
Open Settings, then Notifications. You can enable or disable each prayer individually, choose an adhan or a soft chime, and set a pre-prayer reminder between 5 and 45 minutes.
If notifications do not arrive, check that battery optimisation is disabled for Salah Companion in your Android settings. Aggressive power saving on some devices stops scheduled alarms.
Using the qibla compass
Tap the compass icon on the home screen. Hold your device flat and move it in a figure-of-eight to calibrate the magnetometer. The needle points to the qibla direction from your current position. The compass works fully offline once your location is known.
Tracking your prayers
Tap a prayer on the home screen to mark it complete. The monthly view shows your consistency at a glance. Nothing is uploaded — your tracking history stays on your device.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
Times look a few minutes off. Different calculation methods produce slightly different times. Choose the method your local mosque uses in Settings, then adjust individual prayers with the manual offset option.
The app shows the wrong city. Turn location permission off and on again, or set your city manually.
Notifications stopped after an update. Re-open the app once after any Android update so it can reschedule alarms.
